Marg Chennai Marathon 2010: Fun Run Marathon
The weather was perfect with occasional drizzle, the atmosphere was electrifying with screams of participants, Marg Chennai Marathon 2010 was filled with fun and participants.
By the time I reached the parking area at Island ground, at around 5:20 a.m, the ground was almost full. The police friend told me that this time some 15,000 participants are taking part. Later heard that around 70,000 participated!!!!!
I, along with my friends from TEDx Chennai team decided to run 7km stretch. The run was almost like a political procession with banners of various corporates.
There were school and college students, NGOs
Corporates, women in sarees ( surprising, we did not see any person in Veshti (Dhoti).
One of the youngest (if not the one) participants of the Marathon
Sivamani was live drumming, there were school kids as cheer leaders on either sides of Kamaraj road, various school bands were also performing
The TEDx Chennai organisers, Pravin, Eddy and Bharat (yeah, they were running when this pic was taken).
By around 7:30, we finished the race. Police did a great job in managing the crowd. Our 7km marathon was almost like a 7km walk, because of crowd (am sure around 80 percent of the crowd opted for 7km one) and in some places the roads were filled with water, my friend Pravin commented that those were hurdles!
Any way I enjoyed the run (hmmm walk). Next year I should try the half marathon (i.e just 21 kms!!!!)
