Painful experience of Customer Service
I am now standing at the outlet of one of India’s leading mobile service providers. They claim that they are India’s No. 1 Network. Now my problem is I have a data card, I don’t know the number but I want to recharge the data card, the ever smiling Customer service representative says she can’t say the mobile number as the card is blocked. I ask ”but you will have some way to identify the mobile number right?” , she blinks and check with the guy standing next and after 5 mins of discussion she says she can find but will take ONE full day and before I could come out of the shock and react she is already talking to another so called ” valuable customer”.
I am sure you all have similar experiences of ” Customer delight”. Now enough of barking, throwing the handset or abusing the customer care representative.
Here is another way to vent out your frustration. my friend SenthilNayagam has started a site named @customerpain (very aptly named). This site integrates with Twitter. You tweet about your frustration and the site will pick it up
It is a wonderful tool to resolve the complaints. Now start tweeting your bad customer service experience, you don’t know they may try to resolve it! I am still waiting at the outlet, sipping a cold coffee from the adjacent coffee shop of the same group and wondering how to tweet, I don’t have a data card you know!

Cutting the Maruti off
Maruti is a Sanskrit word referring to Hanuman, son of Marut , the Hindu God for wind (Vayu). Now Maruti along with Suzuki ( Maruti Suzuki India Limited), a partial subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, is India’s largest passenger car company,
If you look at the Maruti Logo you can see the two wings shown as ‘M’ of Maruti . Wings because of Hanuman’s (Maruti) flying capabilities, I guess so
But what happens when some one cut one of the wings?
I saw this at the front office of Chennai’s leading Maruti service centre.
When you cut off the wing of the logo, it is same as cutting the Brand itself
Facebook:What is not in it, is nowhere
Facebook is slowly becoming like the Great Indian epic “The Mahabharata”, where it is said that ‘what is not in Mahabharata, is nowhere!’
Nowadays facebook is used in so many ways, here are some examples I found,
For complaining!
One person reacted to the entire CWG scam by sending an open letter
Wedding Invitation
A friend of mine created this Facebook event page, for his wedding
As Direct Mailer
We are sick and tired on Direct Mailers on email, then we come to Facebook and see this
For disliking someone
When CWG was happening, Suresh Kalmadi was the most hated person in India and the same feeling reflected on Facebook, there are almost half a dozen of hate pages on Kalmadi
For organising Wildlife Outing
When it comes to organising an event, Facebook is the best place. This event is organised by Samuel Eddy, a good friend of mine
For elections
Panchayat elections happening in kerala. This is a closed group on Facebook, asking to support Congress party. These are just few examples, am sure we will see many more interesting ways in which people will use Facebook
Non Gandhian World of Advertising
I was browsing through my Fav tweet messages and got stuck in Shashi Tharoor’s message.
His latest column,(Gandhi Jayathi special )on our non-Gandhian world: Got excited to read the article, two reasons: Mahatma is my hero and I like Shashi Tharoor’s style of writing. But when i clicked and landed on the page.
Now there are two ads and one news content. All the three pieces of information go well against the spirit of Gandhism. This shows the sad part of consumerism.
It is high time Deccan Chronicle (where the ad and article appeared) take some serious steps on content based advertising. I mean there is very little chance of someone who is into Gandhian philosophy will browse through thousand of Indian singles in ignighter and start flirting but then they might be looking for a new house. I did not browse the ignighter but read the article. It is well written. Link to the article. As Tharoor said it is really a non Gandhian World (of Advertising)
Vuvuzelas and Nadaswarams
At last had the opportunity to see and blow the controversial wind instrument, Vuvuzela, thanks to Kiruba Shankar, who picked up the instrument in South Africa.
Now this instrument is quite simple, a plastic instrument, almost 2 ft in length. Can be detached into three parts. There is the website address given www.vuvuzelas.com and mentioned ‘proudly South African’ . There is a warning sign also i.e blowing the instrument at close range can lead to permanent hearing loss. Vuvuzela’s sound pressure is almost 120 dB at 1 metre from the device opening.
The term vuvuzela in Zulu language means ‘ to make vuvu sound. Now at least in appearance Vavuzela has close resemblance to The nadaswaram /nadhaswaram, also called nagaswaram.
Nadaswaram is one of the most popular classical instruments of TamilNadu and the world’s loudest non-brass acoustic instrument.
Nadaswaram also has three parts, kuzhal, thimiru, and anasu same in the case with vuvuzela but similarity stops there.
In Nadaswaram there are seven finger-holes and five additional holes drilled at the bottom which are used as controllers. The Nadaswaram has a range of two and a half octaves like the flute.
By looking at Vuvuzela and blowing also one might get this wrong idea that it can produce only one sound : A sample sound but like in the case of nadaswaram, with special play techniques (like with didgeridoo or jug blowing) many different tones and even melodies can be played on it. Read it in Wikipedia that there are Vuvuzela Orchestras.
Wonderful Messages at a Retail Outlet
A recent visit to nearby retail outlet made me think whether we, as a society are at all ready for shopping at huge retail outlets.
It seems lot of free knowledge is being shared here
Forget about trials, the shelf is locked and supervisor has the key, so if you want any deo, you need to tell him which brand you want, he will come unlock the shelf and handover the deo to you
“There’s no such thing as a free lunch”
Now this is the ultimate message
