Last month I attended an interesting workshop: A workshop on how to author a book! The workshop was by Dr. Liz Alexander. Dr. Liz is an author who has more than 15 books to her credit, which have sold over a million copies. Liz assists CEOs write books on thought leadership with a unique 7 step process. Liz is also an INSOURCER who helps companies in the US bring out their unique stories through their employees.
Now Liz’s workshop is all about how to write a book (non fiction). It’s a scientific approach to book authoring. What Liz says is when ever we want to write on some topic, we just try to fill in with what ever we know about that topic. This is the type 1 thinking that involves no deep thinking. By doing this we end up writing a ‘me to’ book and will be very ordinary one.
First Workshop In India
Dr. Liz’s workshop at Chennai was the first of this kind in India. The participants play a key role in making any workshop a grand success. Dr. Liz’s workshop on book authoring also saw very interesting and active participation. The participants were all from different backgrounds, but the one thing they share were the passion to author a book.
Interesting mix of participants: An NLP trainer, serial entrepreneur, Marketing and strategy professional, CEOs, freelance writer.
Type 2 thinking for extraordinary books. One of the main points that Dr. Liz shared was the power of type 2 thinking, the one which is deep, that requires lots of effort and time. If you want to leave your mark with an extra ordinary book in your subject area, you need to cultivate this habit of type 2 thinking. Here one of the participants shows his mind map, a result of type 2 thinking.
Blue print of the book. The main goal of the workshop was to create the blue print for the book. Here you see the participants thinking hard to create the blue print for their respective books.
Once you are ready with your blue print, you share it with others and believe me the value addition they bring is some thing awesome.
We all had a great time commenting on others blue print, lots of value addition, almost like a crowd sourced idea.
At the end of the day we became close pals!!!! And Dr. Liz is coming back to India in July end for another series of workshops.
Last week I attended an interesting workshop organised by my friend Rajesh Setty named “The Art of Personal Branding.” Now I have tried to get a gist from the workshop. Here it is gist of the workshop.

How to identify your strengths?

Noticing when you are in the flow
Not something you can ask for
It is not your presence on social media
It is not an extension of your employer’s brand
How to move from noise to voice? distinguish yourself
The hallmark of a compelling story is when some one else telling about you
