Archive for July, 2010
It all started with 6 people meeting on 9 June 2010 at Subway restaurant in Nungambakkam, Chennai. According to Samuel Eddy, the brain behind WWW, the idea was to create a platform where people can connect, interact and have a good time. People, especially youth are so stressed that they need an avenue to de-stress, Eddy used to say and WWW was apt for that.
So why meet up on a Wednesday and not a weekend as in the case of any other networking events?
“The idea of Wednesday was to have a mid week boost”, says Samuel Eddy.
But what started as a normal g2g has now grown into a major networking event in Chennai. Welcome to the curious case of WWW (Wonderful Wednesday Workouts)
Time line: From June 2 to July 28
6 to 60 participants in 8 weeks!
So why WWW?
a. To communicate is human!
No denial of the power of online communities, but when we extent it to off line, real communities, the experience is ultimate. A great example of the fact that even though social networking communities are a rage, there is nothing like face to face networking.
c. The power of Branding!
Initially the get together was mainly restricted to close friends, then Eddy made a smart move, he used one of the most powerful brands at present, Facebook, to spread the message. This brought in people who were already connected through Facebook but never met.
As a result, the event itself got branded as Face to face Facebook Friends
Face to face Facebook Friends Fan page
d. Tie ups
As the number of people increased the store manager of the Subway became happy and got connected to Samuel Eddy and offered a deal. Sub way will offer a discount of 15 percent for any purchase made by the participants of WWW
Now Face to face Facebook Friends privilege cards have been given to the participants. The card entitles a 15 percent discount on all purchases.
Subway is interested to take this forward and apply to other outlets in Chennai so that more can participate.
So many people have already shown interest in organizing Face to face Facebook Friends in their cities. These types of events will always be relevant as to communicate and share ideas (face to face) is one thing Humans always thrive for.

The Bengaluru ‘Namma Metro’ work is in full swing and the first stretch between Bayappanahalli to M.G. Road is scheduled to open in December 2010. Now Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) have kept one replica (I think it’s not replica but the actual one) of Metro coach in M.G road
Namma Metro, Our Metro!
I like the way people are sitting and pretending as if they are traveling in the Metro rail, pretty high aspiration levels
It’s a good place for time pass too
The route Map
Now this is like a picnic spot, saw this family spending a good time, they were discussing like” where to get down to go to our home?”
Let us hope that Namma Metro will reduce the famous Bengaluru traffic
One of the greatness of Priyan is that he has helped so many actors to come out of their stereotype roles. He made so many villains and character role actors into comedians, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Sunil Shetty and Akshay Kumar are some examples.
In Malayalam he started this trend of breaking so many actors’ stereotypes.
Aesthetics of song sequence is another specialty in Priyan’s film. In one of the interviews, Priyan says there are two ways in which songs decide the course of the movie.
- For a relief and,
- For taking the story forward
His Malayalam movies like Thenmavin Kombathu and Kilichudan mambazham are great examples of this.
Now we look at movies remade by Priyan in Hindi but originally directed by others in Malayalam

Now if you look at Priyan’s Hindi films, you can see two types of remakes,
1. Film that was originally made in Malayalam by Priyan himself and later he remade in Hindi
2. Film that was originally made in Malayalam by others and Priyan remade in Hindi
So in this part let us look at the first instance i.e
Film that was originally made in Malayalam by Priyan himself and later he remade in Hindi, his first film in Hindi was in 1992, a remake of his 1991 super hit Malayalam film, Kilukkam.

Priyadarshan’s one more remake hit cinemas today (23 July 2010). This time it is Khatta Meetta, remake of his own Malayalam film, Vellanakalude Nadu
Priyan, as he is fondly called, brought rich cinematography and music to Malayalam cinema. Most of his films are a treat to watch, to name a few Theenmavin Kombathu and Kaalapani. His films with Mohan Lal were instrumental in making Lal a super star in Malayalam cinema. Now, after venturing in to Bollywood, he has become one of the much sort after directors of the Indian film industry. He is regarded as one of the most successful directors (first and continues to be the only from Malayalam film industry) from south India to make it big in Bollywood.
He has one more unique distinction. Most of the remakes he has made are blockbusters. Having made remakes in four Indian languages, he makes sure that the the situation and texture of the film is in complete gell with the local culture. I would say Priyan is the only Indian film director who has made these many successful remakes (almost 35 films). It is quite interesting if we analyse the filmography of Priyan and we will be doing that in the next few posts.
Priyan’s film started with Malayalam so let’s start from Malayalam
We can analyse Priyan’s remakes in four parts
Hollywood to Bollywood
